No 49. Your telegram of 25th February No 38
Anking and Iwangtung are running with two Russian
Sergeants instead of one British and one Russian
Change made at request of Captain supported by
representative of Butterfields who considered
substitution of second Russian conducive to
smoother working with ships offivers. Great
saving in costs was presumably another inducement,
Suitability of British Sergeants for charge of
Guards not called in question. Remaining two
Butterfields steamers on the same running retain
one British Sergeant.
